Water aerobics is the perfect answer to your fitness needs or goals because it is adaptable to all personal conditions, illnesses, injuries and post surgeries. You can target specific body areas to exercise, or combine several movements into a complete head-to-toe activity.

Water exercises are a proven way to increase your metabolism, build muscle tone and strength, improving balance, coordination and range of motion, and relieve tension — all with pain-free, low impact movements.

Plus, both non-swimmers and swimmers can perform water exercises because you choose your water depth.

Is there anyone who wouldn't be interested in an exercise program that:

  • Gives the benefit of a two-hour workout in thirty minutes?

I have been teaching water exercise since 1979 and have witnessed the incredible results with thousands of participants. But I discovered a secret that many water fitness instructors teaching group classes won’t admit to — my students saw much better results when they could focus on customized exercises designed to meet their specific needs.

After years of developing customized water exercise programs to meet the exact individual needs of my clients, the list of unique exercises continued to grow into the hundreds!

I had so many exercises that I was actually forgetting some of them! The truth is, I needed a way to catalog and access them, so I could reach them quickly and easily.

Plus, other teachers and students were asking to borrow my notes, and I knew what I had to do! I packaged these hundreds of detailed, easy to follow exercises, added full-color photographs, and made them available to other professional instructors!

Additional Tips to help you adjust comfortably to the water:

When possible, exercise during down times (fewer swimmers, classes or children) to avoid water turbulence and splashing.

Water temperature between 84-90 degrees is preferred.
Keep a towel nearby to dry the occasional facial splash.
Exercise with a friend for support and encouragement.
Attempt to stay in water that is waist to chest deep - deep is better.
Focus on breathing normally - avoid holding your breath during anxious moments.
If you stop the workout early, finish the Cool Down before exiting the water.
As you improve, try some of the variations listed under each exercise.

To Deep or Not To Deep Water Workout

This workout was designed after someone requested information about water exercises which could be performed in the shallow or deep end of the pool- either, or, and simultaneously (for classes). The following high energy workout is the result.
An hour long workout with 70 exercises, including warm - up; active head-to -toe cardio exercises; and cool down segments. Additional equipment like barbells, gloves or noodles are not required, but will add intensity to your workout. If you are performing in the deep end, a flotation belt is strongly recommended. If you are in the deeper water, you will need to adjust the exercise photographs accordingly as they will be demonstrated on dry land or in shallow water.

Inclined to Ski Lap Pool Water Workout

The perfect water workout for lap pool facilities! This is a traveling workout combining shallow water exercises and deep water Cross Country Ski. All of your Cardio exercises will travel toward the deep end of the pool. When you can no longer touch the bottom of the pool, continue forward with Cross Country Ski. Reach the deep end wall, and return to the shallow end with Cross Country Ski. When you can touch the pool floor, resume the shallow water exercise to the shallow pool wall.
